Yes: I advise everyone to take a good multivitamin. Very few Americans get the recommended allowance of all vitamins and minerals and even those who do benefit from taking higher amounts. I also advise at least 500 mg of Vit C 2x/day. All Americans (except those in the deep South) need 5000-8000 iu of Vit D3 in fall and winter months, year-round if don't get much sun. See

No proof: Unless you are having a documented vitamin deficiency, there is no proof that taking extra vitamins help. Most folks in the usa are deficient in vitamin d. Dr. Linus pauling suggests huge doses of vitamin c per day, but there is no real proof. Good diet and exercise is probably more helpful. Cut back on sugar, especially high fructose corn syrup. If you are overweight, avoid fructose for now.

Iron: Even a few iron-containing vitamins are likely to upset a person's stomach. This is fairly common and if this has happened to you, think of taking them with food or trying a product with less iron. I'd welcome the input of others.

Mother nature: You can get all the nutrition you need from eating real food.  Lean meats, veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds can provide similar if not better nutrition than you get in a processed vitamin or powder.  It means you have to work a little harder at preparing meals, but well worth it.

Vitamin D: Is fat soluble and takes approx. 3 mos to reach equilibrium with normal daily replacement, and the same length of time to be fully metabolized out of your system. However, you are constantly making vitamin d in your skin, and ingesting it in food, so there is no real accurate answer to your question.

: Anytime is fine. After three months at this dose, reduce the dose to no more than 4000 units/day.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Supplement vs diet: Vitamin in the form of pill is convenient, as well as you know how much and what you will get from it. But pills contain lots of preservatives/chemical to prolong the shelf-life for sale. Fruits/veggies contain variety, fresh, unaltered vitamins/minerals especially when consumed raw as in salad etc.. Also, these provide roughage/fibers to enhance regularity and better colon health. Good luck.
