: It is possible for respiratory problems to be part of the Long Covid range of symptoms. It is important, though to rule out other causes. In persons with damaged airways, healing can take several years. In the interim, the airways react to viruses, cold, smoke and other irritants with increased inflammation. Talk to your Dr about your specific history and situation to get a more complete diagnosis

Shortness of breath:  COVID 19  is a possibility. Suspicion for COVID 19 is higher if you have at least 2 of these symptoms:  temp of at least 99.6, Cough, Shortness of breath, Chills, Shivering, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat or new loss of taste or smell.

if shortness of breath is caused by atelectasis, how can it be treated pls?i ve linear atelectasis, and inhalers doesn't seem to be working well for me

If it is a lot...: Atelectasis is the deflation of small lung units. If it is small, it usually does not cause shortness of breath. If, however, most of the lung gets deflated, that can cause shortness of breath. A chest xray can tell the difference. The best way to treat atelectasis is to take deep breaths.

Shortness of breath: Hi, you need evaluation by a good physician to figure out the underline cause of your shortness of breath, there are too many causes for SOB including lung disease, heart disease, muscle weakness, anemia and etc. The inhalers could be useful for Asthma, COPD and some allergies but not treating the other causes of SOB. son visited pediatrician for shortness of breath during athletic activity. no tests/xrays done..just inhaler. still worried. should i get 2nd opinion?

Common issue &amp; rx: Exercise triggered shortness of breath (bronchospasm) is a rather common finding in teens &amp; pre-teens.They may or may not have ever had similar asthma like problems with other triggers. It is routine to give a kid an inhaler (&amp; proper instruction on use) to see if this helps. You could spend time with a pulmonologist if you could find one that treats kids &amp; have expensive lung tests.You decide.

i'm having shortness of breath/ tightening in my chest. my inhaler isn't working as much . i cough up mucus with black streaks. cough when can't breat?

Mgt: If your inhaler is not as effective in controlling the cough, your respiratory plan needs to be adjusted. The black streaks may be dried blood or tar. If you are smoking, avoid all smoke exposure, including second hand smoke.
I would suggest a follow up with your PCP.

See an allergist: Shortness of breath despite multiple asthma medications means one of three things : 1) you're being over treated (using long -acting bronchodilators when you don't really need them can actually cause shortness of breath); 2) this isn't really asthma ; 3) your asthma is very difficult to treat. At your age, all three of these are possible. You need an allergist, not the internet, to sort this out.

how come after a virul chest infection i still have shortness of breath i have even been on steriods an inhaler antbiots been  2 month no help  ?

Respiratory insuffic: This can be caused by either damage to the airways, including the lungs or potentially could be a symptom of damage to the heart. You should be seen by a doctor and fully evaluated, Do not wait on this since it has already gone on too long. Good luck and best wishes.
