If it is a lot...: Atelectasis is the deflation of small lung units. If it is small, it usually does not cause shortness of breath. If, however, most of the lung gets deflated, that can cause shortness of breath. A chest xray can tell the difference. The best way to treat atelectasis is to take deep breaths.

Chest Physiotherapy: Atelectasis or collapsed lung is usually caused by mucus plug. In order to expand the lung you need to drink lot of fluids which help to make the mucus thin and you need to take bronchodilators through nebulizer as it contains saline and follow that by bending down at the edge of bed with some one patting on your back and trying to dislodge the mucus plg and thereby expand the lung.Do it 3-4 time/.
