woke up with a swollen upper eyelid. what can i do to relieve this?

Eyelid swelling with: Can be indicative of an allergic reaction. Contact allergy can be responsible and treated with topical ophthalmic anti-inflammatory ointment prescribed from your ophthalmologist. Other common causes could include blepharitis (eyelid margin infection) and variations thereof, eczema and infection. Uncommonly, infection of the eyelid itself can cause swelling and be treated with oral antibiotics.

Stye , infection etc: It could be blepharitis- which could be caused by infection , allergies etc. Or it could be stye- i.e. Abscess/pimple on the eye lid. Do you have discharge on the eye? Do you feel a pimple on the eye lid? For stye-you should just put hot compress 4x/day for several days and it would heal itself. Never pop a stye. If you have greenish discharge on the eye or redness on the eye as well- go to see md.

Possible allergy: Painless swelling of the lids without redness is probably an allergic response to something you have come in contact with.  You could try an   antihistamine, like claritin (loratadine).  If there is redness and/or pain, you need to see an ophthalmologist.

Need evaluation.: A painful swollen upper eyelid is likely a chalazion or stye. First line treatment is to apply warm compresses to the eyelid for 5-10 minutes several times a day.

However, new spots(floaters) in the vision should be evaluated by an ophthalmologist to rule out any retinal tears or holes.

Other symptoms?: What do you get with them? Nasal congestion, sneezing, headache? Or rash on eyelids, eye discharge? There are other causes for swollen eyelids in the morning, you should really consult your doctor about this.

Eyelid swelling: Can be associated with many possible causes.  These include infection, allergies, inflammatory conditions, or just typical aging eyelid changes.  Some of these can tend to run in families.  Talk to your eye doctor about your concerns.  He/she can make sure there are no problems that are causing the swelling.

Puffy: This could be a longstanding chalazion, an inflammation of one or more oil glands in the eyelid.  Try some warm compresses for a few days and see if the puffiness declines.  If not, call your local eye doctor for an appointment.

i have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in- of allplaces- my eyelids! i'm thinking sarcoidosis is possible. thoughts? for many years, i have had swollen upper eyelids with a bumpy texture (looks like chicken skin). i've also been to an optometrist

Rheumatoid : Rheumatoid arthritis unfortunately can present in many ways.  To be sure of the diagnosis you really need to see a rheumatologist and have blood tests to confirm the diagnosis.  A biopsy would have shown the probem to be sarcoidosis so that probably can now be eliminated.  If you have not seen an oculoplastic specialist,  i would do this as well.
