Rheumatoid : Rheumatoid arthritis unfortunately can present in many ways. To be sure of the diagnosis you really need to see a rheumatologist and have blood tests to confirm the diagnosis. A biopsy would have shown the probem to be sarcoidosis so that probably can now be eliminated. If you have not seen an oculoplastic specialist, i would do this as well.

Hello, There : Hello, there are certain specific blood tests and stains that had to be done on the biopsy to confirm rheumatoid arthritis vs other conditions, e.G sarcoidosis or amiloidosis or lupus or pseudoxanthoma elasticus among many. If you are concerned about sarcoidosis, there are blood tests you may ask your doctor to perform and also to review your general health symptoms. Depending on your eyelid consition, debulking or removal of the excess skin may be an option although it may occasionally lead to worsening of your condition. Ask you doctor if you have had these tests done: rheumatoid factor, ace, lyzozyme, anca, crp, esr, serum protein electrophoresis, lupus panel antibodies hope it helps. Sincerely, irina ganelis, M.D. http://losangeleseyeinstitute.com.

What : What you are describing can be many things including milia, syringoma, lupus, sarcoidosis, etc... Biopsy does not always get enough tissue sample for the diagnosis. As other doctors have stated on this blog, rheumatoid arthritis need a blood work up for the diagnosis. So i don't understand how your prominent ophthalmologist was able to diagnose your condition. My recommendation is to see a dermatologist.
