Something new?: Swelling from knee can be from trauma/injury, infection(i.E lyme disease), gout, and rheumatologic  diseases etc.. Sometime effusion/swelling occurs without known cause. When it is swollen, the knee is less stable and popping and "giving-out" can occur. Take it easy, becareful walking on uneven ground/steps. Motrin/aleve may help. Consult doc to find the cause/treatment. Good luck.

Get Evaluation: When the knee joint starts to lock/pop etc, you should be evaluated for an abnormality in the knee itself such as a meniscal tear or other structural abnormality to the knee cap or knee joint it self. Radiographic studies most likely will be needed. Good luck

That is a lot of : Fractures in one year. Unless  one was a stunt woman or very clumsy  -this is difficult to explain. I reviewed side effect profiles for phenergan, (promethazine) Alprazolam ; Apriso - and found no association with fractures.  If you have found yourself more injury prone, Alprazolam  can lead to difficulty with coordination, clumsiness etc.  This warrants further exploration.

There are many treatments which can help decrease your symptoms such as physical therapy, topical NSAIDS (Voltaren gel), off weight loading braces, injections, peripheral nerve stim, and knee replacement surgery. How much pain r u in: Most swollen joints do not "have" to be drained--it is done to improve mobility and to reduce the large amounts of pain that tend to accompany them. If no pain or other issue, gradual compression could address it. So, depends on pain tolerance and speed of accumulation. Then it's just a needle & you feel so much better! be sure to wrap it after so it doesn't reaccumulate!
