i woke with a swollen armpit / lymph node on my right arm. i've noticed its been tender for a while but it just now became hard. what is this?

See a Dr: Likely to have lymph node enlargement there. Even though some benign diseases like hidradenitis suppurativa or other affect that area, cancer is a concern either lymphomas, hodgkin, even fron chest, breast, lung.

armpit swollen lymph nodes caused by shaving.. how long it'll take them to go away?

Difficult to say: There are several things to consider.  It could be just run of the mill mild folliculitis...But there is also something called hydradinitis supperativa.  The latter is more acne like and takes far long to treat and go away.  For now..Stop shaving.  Make sure you replace the razor frequently and sterilize it in chlorox or the like in between shaves.

Needs to be checked: You have swollen lymph glands in two different areas of your body and it needs to be evalated by your physician
usually you can have swollen nodes in armpit due to an infection in arm or from the breast.And same for swollen glands in your groin
but you have glands in two places and you need a detailed history and complete physical exam to find out the cause and treat appropriately.

checking armpit, will swollen lymph node only be felt when arm is down? small lump goes away when arm is raised. am i feeling muscle?

Lymph nodes: In the arm pit are better felt with hand down. This is fact and this is how it should be examined.However, i would suggest to se a doctor that he/she should come to the conclusion are both arm pits the same or not.
It can be nothing but just in case have someone who knows better...

Needs evaluation : Hard to say what the cause is with out an exam. See your primary care doctor for this.

Axillary pain: I would strongly recommend that you call your doctor and get in for an exam. A physical exam is must to determine if further diagnostics as labs and/ or any radiological evaluation is needed. Please do not delay this.

: Lymph nodes are definitely present in the armpit area. They serve as filters for bodily fluids and change in size depending on how much filtering they have to do. If the lymph node is getting smaller and remains movable that is a good sign. When lymph nodes get larger and do not change in size it is best to see your doctor for further evaluation.

Feel them: Place your finger tips into the arm pit the area closer to the chest than the hand. Deep palpation with a little pressure the nodes will feel like a soft pea if they are swollen. Sometines they are hard. If you do feel nodes have your doctor check as well

Armpit pain: Pain with certain movements could be muscular. Have your doc check to make sure there aren't any masses, and that your mammogram is up to date.
