my 2 yr daughters foot( ankle) is swollen on one side. it has happened before also. what could it be? an insect bite or something to do with blood?

Unknown: What was the cause before and how was it treated?  Could be bite, could be something with blood.  Possible injury.  I would bring her to the doctor for evaluation and treatment.

Diagnosis first: You first have to take him to the doctor to find out what the problem is. Once a diagnosis is made treatment will be a lot easier.

See a doctor: Put ice on it till you get to the doctor and take an antihistamine like benedryl. You possibly need oral antibiotics. Elevate the foot as much as possible. Tetanus immunization should also be reviewed.

Not normal: if foot and ankle is still quite a bit swollen have your PCP check you out as it can get infected? how do you know it is insect bite. it could be infection from the start.

Skin infections: You may be developing a skin infection(cellulitis) or abscess at the site of the bite. Use warm soaks and consult a doctor for antibiotics or incision and drainage if the skin becomes more red, warm, or painful or the area of redness and firmness spreads. You can put triple antibiotic on it and cover with a sterile dressing like a band aid after washing the area first.

As with... : ...Most things on the skin,  a doctor needs to actually look at  this to see what it is.  It could be bites,  or it could be an infection of the skin (something called impetigo).  If it's getting worse and spreading,  see your doctor.

Local care: The numbness may be associated temporarily, but if it persists, please see your physician. The insect bites may be treated topically with an antihistamine cream and low dose steroid cream, applied twice daily. Watch for signs of an allergic reaction involving in particular swallowing and breathing.  Watch for signs of infection, including enlargment of the swelling and drainage.

i have 3 swollen lymph nodes in my left groin for 5 days as well as strain in hip/ groin from 6 mile walk 3 days ago. also have 3 insect bites on same leg within last week.

Common: Those lymph nodes screen out the serum contributed by events from that leg or nearby skin. Bug bites could easily increase their size from resting to enlarged. The cycle lasts about 3-4 wks before they shrink back. If they develop nearby redness or continue to swell they may have true infection &amp; need treatment. The strain would have nothing to do with it.

Likely superficial : infection from scratching. If persists, see a dermatologist.... wear socks at night so you
don't scratch while asleep.

Hard to say: Those symptoms could represent a number of things: insect bites, skin infection, drug rash.  A picture is worth a thousand words - and seeing your health provider is best to determine the cause.
