CRP and ESR are nonspecific inflammatory markers that may be elevated during an acute attack and likely normal when the disease is inactive. Though ace is somewhat different than CRP and esr, it too may or may not be elevated at any given time.

my esr was 61. 2 weeks later crp was 5.1. i suffer from anxiety but could my elevated esr be a sign of cancer such as multiple mylemoma? is this esr very high? i'm very nervous. should i get any follow ups?

Both of them usually indicate inflammatory conditions like infections, autoimmune disease, rather than cancer if that's any relief; but it would appear that something is going on so yes you should get followup. Never hurts to ask: If you are concerned about your health, getting a 2nd opinion is a good idea. After all it's YOUR health, not the doctors... and I always think it's important to listen to that 'inner voice'. There must be SOME reason your ESR and CRP are elevated. To me, as an infectious diseases doctor, I would really want to know. A thorough history and proper physical exam would be a basic starting point.

Various causes: You could have an infection, or you could be pregnant. Do you have any other symptoms of infection? Would suggest starting with a home pregnancy test and then get a checkup from your physician.

Not necessarily : These labs are unreliable in any case, and are only one small part of a work up. The real question is, "How do you feel?" A serious systemic autoimmune disease such as lupus, Wegener's, scleroderma or dermatitis iris has you suffering from obvious physical symptoms.

More tests: Joint swelling and an elevated ESR indicate  that you have joint inflammation, not just joint pain. This makes it suspicious for seronegative RA (rheumatoid arthritis with negative RF, negative CCP) or a disease in the lupus family. The ANA is not as helpful as you might think as it is positive in many conditions. However, you need DNA, ENA, complement testing now for diagnosis. You also need Rx.

i had idiopathic erythema nodosum, + ana >1:1000, elevated esr & crp, + anti-pcna, hilar lymphadenopathy, now in remission. should i still be worried?

Were you diagnosed?: You are describing sarcoidosis or lofgren`s syndrome.  If you are not having any symptoms then there is no cause for worry - follow up with your doctor.
