just recently started having swelling above my ankles sock line on both legs just curious to what is causing it. ?

Ankle edema: This is a sign that you're either retaining fluid and/or your leg vein valves are somewhat incompetent in preventing venous blood to back up down the leg. You may have some varicose veins or a family history of them. If you note fluid buildup elsewhere(fingers,around eyes) you are retaining fluid. Wear elastic stockings for vein problems. Reduce salt intake for fluid retention &amp;?see MD for tests

sprained my lateral,deltoid ligaments and top of foot 5 months ago - still getting pain, popping and swelling above my ankle?

Need reevaluation: Go back to your orthopedic surgeon , for re-evaluation of injury further study , for ligament tare , joint displacement , lateral malleolar injury etc , some times need surgery

Venous insufficiency: The veins function to bring the blood in the lower extremity back to the heart. The veins may not be functioning well which would cause swelling in the ankles.This is known as venous insufficiency.

38 weeks pregnant w r mild pitting edema to dorsum and lateral ankle, no swelling above the ankle. doppler was negative for dvt, i want a repeat doppler?

No need. : If you had a negative doppler for a DVT a repeat will not show any thing new. At your stage of pregnancy it is not uncommon to have swollen ankles. Sometimes it can be more one leg than the other, but usually symmetrical. If you develop pain in your calf in that leg you will need to get it checked out quickly as that can be a symptom for a possible DVT.

Many causes: Could be many things.  Do you have high blood pressure?  Have vascular workup.

i've experienced weak leg symptoms/tightening around left  knee/slight swelling above knee & above  ankle from inner side also pain at the top of thigh from front.i have so slight  pain if i press on swelling areas..this occured after i  walk a lot.

Leg swelling: Swelling of knee and ankle that is associated with inner thigh pain would make me suspicious for a blood clot. You should be evaluated.

In absence of injury: This could be ganglion, or a swelling from underlying bone, nerve, muscle, or vascular tissue. 
If its getting bigger or causing pain, etc. Then need for investigating it further with xrays, mri/ct scans, blood work. Surgical removal with biopsy would most likely be necessary to get definite diagnosis.

See a doctor: As ankle swelling can be a  sign or manifesttion of other things such as high blood pressure or kidney problems. More commonly it is from standing for long periods and incompetent valves in veins. This can be examined or looked at as well. Sometimes, compression knee high socks are helpful if the latter is the cause.
