In absence of injury: This could be ganglion, or a swelling from underlying bone, nerve, muscle, or vascular tissue. If its getting bigger or causing pain, etc. Then need for investigating it further with xrays, mri/ct scans, blood work. Surgical removal with biopsy would most likely be necessary to get definite diagnosis.
