i had strep throat completed 10 days of antibiotic about 4 days ago. now i have a congested cough that has a very bad taste when i cough. any suggesti?

Infection: It is possible that your lower respiratory tract has become infected with a different or similar, resistant bacteria which is causing bronchitis. You may need additional antibiotics with a medication that will better target this area. Guaifenesin, more liquids, &amp; humidification may help. You should discuss this with your doctor, if you need further assistance.

i was flagyl for diverticulitis now 2 days after finishing it i have a bad taste in my mouth that reminds me of strep. i also have a white/yellow coated tongue. my throat is also a little scratchy. could this be thrush?

Viral pharyngitis: Sounds like a viral pharyngitis.  Check to see that you don't have an exudate on your pharynx or tonsils or enlarged lymph nodes near the angle of your jaws which could suggest need for a strep throat test.  Viral pharyngitis should resolve in a few days.  Take some over the counter throat lozenges and tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief. Antibiotics are not needed.

Sore throat: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician ; get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.

Probably: If you have pain radiation to the scapula and bitter taste in the mouth called water brash and burning in the throat it is very possible you may have reflux.  Try adjusting your diet and changing your lifestyle which in most cases will affect and reduce reflux, additionally you should see your primary, antacids and /or medications such as prilosec can be trailed for symptom control initially.

NO: Strep. Throat usually starts with a sore throat and headache.  This is followed by fever, pus on the throat or tonsils and enlarged lymph nodes at the angles of the jaws.  A bad taste in the mouth can be caused by many things but not typically a strep. Throat.

monday i was given penicillin v 500 mg  for strep throat. still have a lot of pain & now i have a horrible taste in my mouth.  how long to take effect?

Rule of thumb: I tell my patients if they are not better, much better, in 48 hours, likely the medicine is not working. So in 2 days and you still have problem go back to your doctor. We say that as we don't want our patients to have complications of a disease left untreated properly.

: It means that you should be evaluated by a rheumatologist for autoimmune disorder. Uveitis is an autoimmune disorder of the eyes. An ophthalmologist should treat you for the uveitis ASAP.

Possibly yeast: If you did a course of antibiotics you may have now developed a yeast infection in your mouth. It would not likely have caused a true growth but you may have inflammation of some of the taste buds which can appear as a growth. You need to see your medical provider to confirm the diagnosis and get a prescription for an antifungal mouth rinse.
