hello.i have a groin strain ,where rectus abdominus attaches to pubis symphsis,it is swollen and tender.could i have caused myself an inguinal hernia?

Location, location!: The pubic symphysis is right in the middle of the pelvis (straight down from the umbilicus).  An inguinal hernia causes a lump in the groin (left or right) and may or may not be painful or tender.

can a wide open rectus abdominis cause you pain?

Usually: NOT ..it's congenital and seldom needs repair..if it does it's surgical!

i have a bulge to the right of my rectus abdominis, which recently appeared. its not visible but can be felt as i'm lean. its very mild pain/annoyance?

Bulge: I would get this evaluated. The first thing that comes to mind is that you might have a hernia which is a weakening along that abdominal wall. Sometimes these can get extremely painful and can be a surgical emergency. ( in which case go to the er). To avoid that, i would see your doctor and they might have you see a doctor in the office.

Hernia: Those are good questions to discuss with your doctor or the surgeon who is going to repair it.

how can you quickly heal a rectus and oblique muscle strain? how long does it take to heal?

Depends: There is no way to accelerate the healing. Depending on the severity of injury it may take a couple of days to a couple of weeks. 
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

can an injured rectus abdominis mimic symptoms associated with ulcers or gastritis or ibs?

Yes..: An abdominal wall injury and strain of its muscles can mimic symptoms of stomach ulcer. However, ulcer pain is accompanied by other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, worsening after meals, black stools, among others. Muscle pain usually persists all day and worsens with certain movements. Get evaluated with dr. in order to get formal exam and final diagnosis.

hello doc, i had undergone a pl thoracotomy for primary spontaneous  pneumothorax 1year back and as a complication have suffered left rectus abdominis atrophy (upper 2/3) on the side of incision. it hasn't recovered. can anything be done?

Physical therapy: If there is no current infection of the area, physical therapy focused on strengthening the muscle may be helpful. It should be completed with the guidance of a physician to avoid any injury to the area.

Pain and Pulsation: You must get your self examined immediately, especially if you have worked out too hard and there may be a tear in the muscle causing pain and making it easy to feel inside pulsations.

Back pain: When did it happen? Stay active. Take medications like tylenol or naproxen/ibuprofen (unless advised to avoid due to other health related issues), reduce stress, massage, try to do stretches. If it does not feel better soon then consult a physician.

Possibly: If there is a mild grade 1 sprain, 
one might be able to exercise with a 
brace that provides medial/ lateral 
if there is a grade 2 or 3 sprain, you
will probably be out for between 4 and 6
weeks.
