Back pain: When did it happen? Stay active. Take medications like tylenol or naproxen/ibuprofen (unless advised to avoid due to other health related issues), reduce stress, massage, try to do stretches. If it does not feel better soon then consult a physician.

Strained back: Michael: strained muscles usually heal with time (few days to 2-3 weeks). Initially, get some pain relief with acetaminophen (tylenol), and start physical therapy. Some people find short-term benefit with ice packs (apply a frozen bag of corn wrapped in a tea towel to the affected area) or moist heat. Long-term, back education and back strengthening are v. good preventative strategies. Nisha
