im recovering from a stomach bug. the nausea/vomiting has eased up but i have a lot of burning in my throat & chest from throwing up. ive been eating ice pops to try to soothe the burns. is there anything else i can do to calm the throat/chest pain?

: Taking an over-the-counter proton pump inhibitor (such as omeprazole) can reduce stomach acid production, reducing the likelihood  of further vomiting, and taking the medication, sucralfate, can coat the tissue burned by the stomach contents to help it heal.

Depends: Would be worth a doctor examination as nausea and vomiting without diarrhoea may be another cause such as migraine, urine or other infection or other abdominal problem.  What medications one can take for the nausea and vomiting depends on your medical history and current medications.  There are a variety of options.  Best to see doctor to sort the above out. No: Dimenhydrinate is used primarily to PREVENT motion sickness. You take it about 30 minutes before the perceived precipitating event. The only off-label indication for this medication is to prevent the nausea and vomiting associated with first-trimester pregnancy, also known as "morning sickness" to many women.

every 2 months i get severe nausea & vomiting. all tests are 'normal'. doc says its just bad luck w/ stomach flu. could there be another cause?

Sure: Guy or gal?  If gal, could be related to hormones, menses, ovulation (perhaps just from one of the ovaries, thus every other month).  Check timing of symptoms with menstrual cycle.
Could be cyclic vomiting syndrome; could be other triggers for the symptoms, could even be migraine related.  Could be other stuff too.

is a high hr normal with a stomach virus? resting typically in 70s. was very sick yesterday (no fever) with nausea and vomiting and it was around 100-110bpm all day lying down. went back down today and i feel better, but wondering if this is typical?

: The viral infection as such with the dehydration produced by the vomiting probably led to increased heart rate. Hope you didn't have diarrhea also as viral gastroenteritis is common with vomiting and diarrhea.

Pretty: well but sounds like a lot simpler medication would work by MOUTH ..why the injection ..I have not heard of this aggressive treatment as PROPHLAXIS for a possible stomach virus!

Usually 2-3 days: Most stomach bugs last 2-3 days, so you should either be feeling better very soon, or should be checked out. Especially if you are not keeping any fluids down, you are at risk for dehydration.Most gastroenteritis infections also have diarrhea, so if only the symptoms you describe, must also consider other infections, such as urine or lung, or something more than a bug.

Virus: A diagnosis of a viral gastrointestinal tract infection is reasonable. Diarrhea may follow. Treatment would be resting, drinking adequate fluids which could include flat ginger ale, soft bland solids and no roughage foods and Tylenol as needed. Intermittent ear aches warrant an examination to check for middle ear infection although nasal congestion,if present, can cause ear aches.

ER: This is not the place in which to undergo evaluation for a chronic process. This needs careful assessment with history, physical exam and labs and possibly endoscopy or other procedures and should be done by a doctor with the time and training to do this. An ER, although staffed by wonderful concerned doctors, in not equipped for this. Go see a GI doctor. Good luck and hope this clears up soon.
