Geographic tongue: Yes. Geographic tongue has been associated with  psoriasis , diabetes, Reiter's syndrome,  atopy , seborrheic dermatitis, HLA-B51, HLA-DR5  HLA DW6  HLA Cw6, nickel sulphate and B-2 deficiency.  Similar  lesions can be seen in lupus as well. Follow up with  rheumatology. ,

why would my tongue be sore on the edges and tip and suddenly very sensitive to spicy food, alcohol and carbonated drinks? has been for 4 days. palate also sensitive. no obvious sores or redness.

Tongue sensitivity: Allergy, change in foods/spices, change in meds, change in supplements, neurologic disorder, burn, lots of other reasons. Avoid trigger foods for 2 weeks. If not completely gone at the end of 2 weeks from onset, see your Dentist.

Yes : It is usually a chronic condition exacerbated by certain food, stress, or hormonal influences in women (menstruating). Foods can include  spicy foods, sour foods, citrus, walnuts, eggplant, tomato , sharp cheese, among others. Many of them are high in natural salicylates- found in aspirin.  Do a search for foods to avoid online and see if avoidance helps.

: What you described could be a normal appearance of tongue. Unless you have noticed a change in appearance of your tongue, you may just watch and wait.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

how can painful geographic tongue be treated? mine flares severely from a variety of foods. no allergies i'm aware of. sores arise, too, from spicy or acidic foods, often. very painful. what can i do to heal tongue/mouth?

: The standard mantra is if it hurts when you do that don't do that. A geographic tongue is considered a benign self resolving process. It appears you react to one or more spices like some due to foods but this may not be a true allergy. Keeping a diary of those exposures that trigger the effect, then avoiding them would be a reasonable plan. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Tongue: It can, but if it is asymptomatic, then it requires no treatment.  If you are not sure, have a dentist    check it.

: Geographic tongue can be quite painful and can result in sores if irritation occurs. Try to avoid foods that seem to irritate it. Typically, geographic tongue comes and goes and it is not known specifically what causes it in most cases. There are no specific treatments except avoiding irritants. If the diagnosis is unclear, see your doctor. Overall, it is benign but that doesn’t make it hurt less!
