hi..i have an ovarian cyst, it has shrunk in size but am getting pain..i was wondering if its rupturing..if so what are the signs? thanks

Ovarian cyst: Certainly it is possible to have a ruptured cyst, in fact they can be common and most often will simply resolve on their own.  The main symptom is often pain in the associated groin.  If the pain is severe or worsens, be sure to call your Dr. and get an evaluation.  Best wishes.

i had a cyst under my arm 2 years ago. my doctor told me to put a hot rag on it and it shrunk; now its a small hole. it hurts when touched sometimes and it can start to smell. its not a bad scent but its noticeable. could this be sign of infection?

: Possibly. You could seen your GP for an examination. Isn you don't have one, try Urgent Care. But the best physician to evaluate a skin lesion is a skin specialist, a Dermatologist. Worth the trip..

over ultrasound, doctor found 1 ovary is way smaller than other (normal size, simple cyst). were investigating ovulation mild bleeding. estradiol, fsh are normal. is this shrunk ovary a sign of impending menopause? im still having regular periods?

: Ovarycsize reduces when you get older and approach menopause. It won't be surprised that when one ovary becomes hypofunction, the other one can compensate which explains one of your ovary is of normal size and your sex hormones are still normal.

i have a bratholin cyst i put heat on it and it shrinks a lot but after a while it pops back up..its been 3 days now what do you suggest?

Bartholins cyst: if it is recurrent or gets larger it may need to be surgically treated   you may want to see your GYN

Unclear: Lasers are not used to shrink cysts in the scrotum. Please clarify the meaning of a "cold laser"

Accepted Answer

Possible: But unusual. If the complex cyst was due to blood in cyst, over time the blood could resorb and the cyst shrink some. If a simple cyst ruptures spontaneously which is rare, it could disappear.

A complex cyst needs a follow up however to rule out risk of malignancy.

No Chances of Shrink: Chocolate cysts are endometriosis cysts on the ovary.  There are no drugs or diet changes that will make those go away.  Based on the way they form, they can't really decrease in size - only increase over time.  Surgery is the only way to make the cyst disappear and even with surgery, there is a 15-20% chance the cyst will re-form.

hi. i have a large simple cyst on my ovary. originally close to 7 cm now its shrunk in two days to 5.8 cm. should i worry? i had a us showing simple cyst no torsion. i know its large but it appears to be shrinking?

: Favorable features are your age, a functioning cyst, shrinking of the cyst and no symptoms. Repeat ultrasound followup seems reasonable but your gynecologist can advise you best.

Thyroglossal cyst: The cystic cavity may drain its contents to the skin at any time. This in effect may cause it to "shrink" although the cyst itself is still present and the abnormal tissue cavity will likely refill itself. Most of these aren't found until adult life, and most present as infections. This cyst can extend from the tongue down into the neck and must be carefully evaluated and possibly removed.

Contraceptive pills: Combined oral contraceptive pills may regulate the menstrual cycle, prevent the formation of follicles that can turn into cysts, and possibly shrink an existing cyst, and may reduce your risk of ovarian cancer. in many cases, especially if you have no symptoms like pain, you can wait and see if the cyst goes away on its own within a few months. Your doctor may recommend periodic ultrasounds.
