I had a cyst under my arm 2 years ago. my doctor told me to put a hot rag on it and it shrunk; now its a small hole. it hurts when touched sometimes and it can start to smell. its not a bad scent but its noticeable. could this be sign of infection?

Possibly. You could seen your GP for an examination. Isn you don't have one, try Urgent Care. But the best physician to evaluate a skin lesion is a skin specialist, a Dermatologist. Worth the trip..
