Great for you: I am going to assume that you're buying from a reputable source and that the containers have been sealed from the manufacturer to prevent their being tainted. A vegetarian will probably need a protein supplement; they'll help you get bulked only if you're doing serious resistance training. Creatine and an electric muscle stimulator (if your physician approves) will also help you get mass.

Usually none: Drink lots of water because too much protein intake may cause a burden on your kidneys.
I see some of my patients' kidney and liver functions get affected with these products.
Have a baseline and a serial blood test for kidney and liver function just to be safe.
Take it easy!

Accepted Answer

Not usually: They are both "relatively" natural. Creatine is made in the body and passes into muscles where it is stored as creatine phosphate, a  form of energy storage. It is lost from muscle and excreted in urine as creatinine. I do not know of any clinical trials that test whether your physical (and mental) capacity is improved.

listen to your body: It is a processed food. A high protein diet from processed food is acidic. It is best taken with lots of fresh green vegetables and fruit which provide fresh water. Good essential fatty acids are needed and slow carbs from anti-inflammatory grains.  If taken in that way and it still causes symptoms,  don't use.

By itself no.: Whey by itself no.  It is a protein.

Other supplements used in bodybuilding circles may cause impotence however.

Accepted Answer

Both: You need more protein than a regular person does, so you will need to increase its intake. Before work outs - yes, but you will need to take more protein as well on a daily basis, so spreading it throughout the day is good too.

Accepted Answer

All if used right: I don't know of any whey protein powder that causes "massive weight gain." in general, weight gain comes from excessive starches &/or fats. Pure protein like whey does not cause this. But one will not have muscle gain just by eating whey- only by exercising as well! i strongly advise whey from grass-fed cows not given hormones & antibiotics, even better if processed at a low temperature.

is whey protein supplements & glutamine supplement  safe for gout users?

None will effect gou: Gout is related to URIC ACID and PURINES, not amino acids or protein supplements. BUT, since everything you mention is a complete waste of money, why bother to ask? There are meds used to control gout in different ways. Low dose aspirin and thiazide diuretics tend to raise uric acid levels. Alcohol, especially in large amounts, often causes attacks. Low purine diets are slightly effective.

i have notice red dots to the right of my belly button. i'm taking whey protein supplements and amino acids. would this be a reaction to that?

Not likely: to check stop taking the supplements and see if it goes away.  Otherwise, you may need to get it looked at by primary MD,

i was wondering if  it would be ok to take whey protein supplements while taking bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for a recent absess? thanks

Should be ok: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) can cause a decrease in kidney function in some people. If you add too much protein to your system, the combination of extra protein and decreased kidney function can be dangerous.
Drink plenty of fluids while on this regimen. If you notice a darkening of your urine, pain on urination, decreased amount of urine being made, or feeling of general malaise, stop everyting and see your doctor!
