Should be ok: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) can cause a decrease in kidney function in some people. If you add too much protein to your system, the combination of extra protein and decreased kidney function can be dangerous. Drink plenty of fluids while on this regimen. If you notice a darkening of your urine, pain on urination, decreased amount of urine being made, or feeling of general malaise, stop everyting and see your doctor!

Yes: You can take a protein supplement when you are on bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Note drainage is the primary treatment of an abscess.
