Talk: Talk with your surgeon.  Ask them to draw exactly what they will be doing.  Ask about the recovery process, both while in the hospital and once you leave.

Surgical removal: We have two lungs - the left and right lungs.  Each lung is divided into lobes. When we remove a lobe of a lung, this is called a lobectomy.  The removal of all of the lobes of a lung is called a pneumonectomy.

Accepted Answer

Not really: Anatomic rearrangement after lung removal does not per se lead to any clinically significant issues. It may make it more challenging for doctors in assessing anatomic conditions by our usual diagnostic tools, but not usually a problem for the patient.

will i be in the icu after a right middle lobe lung removal? will i be on a ventilator?

ICU: Many thoracic surgical procedures require ICU admission post operatively   Many procedures also result in patients remaining on a mechanical ventilator.  There are many variables that go into those decisions.  The patients comorbidities , complications during the procedure as well as the  skill of the surgeon and anesthesiologist and the nursing and surgical teams responsible for your care.

what are common heart problems after lung removal surgery?

Few: Do you mean pneumonectomy? Total removal of one lung? Well atrial fibrillation may occur in about 20%. Bouts of pulmonary hypertension may cause right ventricular dysfunction. Left pneumonectomy usually better tolerated than right.Depending on preoperative overall ventricular function and the quality of the remaining lung, symptoms minimal to catastrophic.

Depends on details: The details of why and how the surgery was performed as well as baseline health status all impact length of stay (los).  Generally, minimally invasive (vats or robotic) surgery has shorter los then thoracotomy. Generally, more "normal" lung tissue vs emphysematous/copd lung tissue has less complications and therefore shorter los.  Saying much beyond would be wild speculation.

are chest xrays safe and can you have one 3 months after a ultrasound and what are the side effects and complications with a chest x ray?

Accepted Answer

: Ultrasound studies do not expose you to any radiation. Chest radiographs are perfectly safe and allow your physician to diagnose a multitude of issues. Side effects, complications = zero.

i took one dose of vitamin k2 (mk7) and it has caused awful side effects (heart fluttering, chest pains, headaches, dizziness and facial flushing) i took the pill four days ago and still have symptoms. how long does it take for the vitamin to leave?

: Using ordinary doses, the vitamin should be long out of your system.  Please see your doctor to address the remaining symptoms.    Seeing your doctor is preferable to urgent care, but you may also go to urgent care if usual MD is not available

what can i do to speed up my lungs clearing rubbish from years of smoking? does mucosolvan pills help? can i take daily without side effects

Time is the best: Medicine for this. The standard in the community is to stop smoking and give yourself time. I don't recommend initiating anything else such as the pills you noted. It is not indicated in my opinion. Don't trade one addiction for the need for another pill. Good luck!

should i take advair 100/50 for mild/moderate asthma or should i try fix my lungs naturally? i'm afraid of some of the side effects i've read.

Asthma is Serious: You should follow the discretion of your doctor, especially if you trust him or her. There are absolutely no proven natural remedies for asthma.
