Possibly: The fingerstick is considered by the public as the "sugar level" & as such the cmp and bmp have the blood glucose level as part of its information.In practice, physicians may get the cbc, bmp, cmp, and many other tests using a fingerstick technique.The direct draw from a vein often produces more accurate results for some of the tests, done correctly a fingerstick can be accurate for glucose.(sugar).

if bmp or cmp are normal, would that rule out hepatitis a or c?

: Preliminary liver function test is included in CMP, not BMP. Normal CMP is usually not consistent with acute hepatitis A but CMP can be normal in hepatitis C. There is no chronic hepatitis A.

1 month itching on face/scalp now also on body. no rash but few isolated red bumps on arm/leg. face itch most intense. no change in soaps/clothes. no meds. cbc, cmp, bmp tests clear. if cancer, would there be other symptoms? what else could it be?

: It could be an allergy, infection etc and you have to be seen to be diagnosed. These are not the usual symptoms of cancer. So pl see your doc or a dermatologist. good luck

See a GI doctor: This may be one of several diagnoses, but without examining you there is no way in which to tell. Mild elevations of amylase are incredibly non-specific and can arise from multiple primary conditions.  See a doctor. Hope you improve quickly.  Best wishes for speedy recovery.

pain in rt side just under ribs, very tender to touch. developed after flu/bronchitis & 2 wks of intense coughing. xray, cbc/cmp unremarkable. cough, chest pain/tightness improving; pain in side is the same. hurts to stretch, bend, & esp cough!

Mgt: Your symptoms are most likely related to pleuritis. If there is a fever spike, I would suggest seeing your physician right away.

R/O LYMPHADENOPATHY: LYMPHADENOPATHY THAT PERSISTS LONGER THAN 8 WEEKS DEMANDS A FULL EVALUATION. You need an Exam&amp; Labs. CT SCAN OF CHEST ABD &amp; PELVIS. BX OF LYMPH NODE. If the pathology is not diagnostic you need a RADICAL LYMPH DISSECTION TO R/O LYMPHOMA VS METASTATIC PROCESS. SEEK PROMPT SECOND OPINION FROM ENT AND A GENERAL SURGEON.

what is the symptoms of mild sepsis, i have had chills and night sweats, no fever my temp normal, oxygen average 99-96 on oximeter.   no coughing  only some abdominal pain on th right side.  waiting on the following test results cbc,cmp and crp.

hemolysis present on cbc and cmp. blood draw was very very slow and for some reason done in side of arm. potassium showed 5.4 which has had me worried with no explanation to eat potassium rich foods. is 5.4 potassium level concerning?

Potassium: That was a bad blood draw and in view of the hemolysis of the specimen I view many of the results, including the potassium level, with suspicion. I recommend repeating the blood work.

which elements on a standard cmp or other test could suggest dehydration?

Accepted Answer

Multiple: On a CMP, a high BUN-to-creatinine ratio MAY be suggestive of dehydration. On a review of urine electrolytes, a low urine chloride or a low FENa may also suggest this. But the operative word is SUGGEST, as there are many causes of a high BUN:Cr and low FENa. To actually put context to these labs, it is always advisable to seek your physician to interpret them properly and apply them to your case.
