A member asked:

Hemolysis present on cbc and cmp. blood draw was very very slow and for some reason done in side of arm. potassium showed 5.4 which has had me worried with no explanation to eat potassium rich foods. is 5.4 potassium level concerning?

Potassium: That was a bad blood draw and in view of the hemolysis of the specimen I view many of the results, including the potassium level, with suspicion. I recommend repeating the blood work.

Hemolysis: Serum potassium levels from a blood sample with hemolysis are not reliable as hemolysis raises potassium due to potassium being released from lysed red cells. Talk to your doctor about repeating the tests. Wish you good health!
