SIBO. lactose/fructo: Been treated for SIBO?  There may be alteration in intestinal bacteria that is affecting digestion, though the lactose intolerance may be more permanent , GI motility as Reglan (metoclopramide) may  help  check immune markers like ANA. anti centromere, HLA B27   for autoimmune process,lupus, AS,behcets,sceleroderma, even POTS)- as they involve GI Also try probiotic. f/u/ w/ doc

Feeling gassy...: Feeling full of "gas" may reflect malabsorption of food (like gluten, lactose), intake of poorly digested food, or choosing foods known to promote gas (beans, fizzy drinks).  Sometimes its more complicated--a stomach emptying too slowly, bacterial overgrowth syndrome, delayed intestinal function, partial obstruction from any cause, infection, rectum problems, and pelvic pathology outside the gut.

i've been reading some people with sibo don't make enough stomach acid, so you don't kill bacteria from foods you eat as well. true?

SIBO: That is possible, but not the entire story. You need to read about this on the net and/or discuss it with the doctor seeing you.  Patients with bacterial overgrowth typically have symptoms of  nausea, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, malnutrition, weight loss and malabsorption which is caused by a number of mechanisms too complex to discuss here.

if a person has sibo (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) is it okay to eat popcorn or rice?

How was diagnosed?: By intestinal fluid culture or by the hydrogen breath test? If diagnosed how was treated? Antibiotic and/or probiotics? The recommended diet is a low carbohydrate. Avoid starches, sugars, gluten and gut irritants like grains, legumes, nuts, caffeine, alcohol, artificial sweeteners and process ingredients. A naturopathic physician could help you the best. I will avoid popcorn and rice.

i get foul gas everytime i eat meat and fatty foods. i don't have celiac which my doc insist i have.  she won't listen to me. can sibo cause this?

Maybe: Looks like poor digestion. Can be caused by gluten sensitivity or other things. Consider digestive enzymes or betain hcl with meals.

i always feel like something slowly releasing from my anus, mostly with smell. those don't seem like farts. i get smell even after bowel emptying and whenever i eat something. can this be a leaky gut or sibo. my stool test came normal btw?

: Your symptoms aren't characteristic of leaky gut or SIBO. They are more specific to the rectum or anus. In my opinion, a proctologist would be best to evaluate and advise you. Appropriate testing will be done.

Yes and no: Sibo is a difficult diagnosis and can be attributed to many GI symptoms. The diagnosis is usually made by breath test or intubation of the small bowel  and culture. So docs treat empirically without performing specific tests.
