The reflux: Is a distraction form the menses, just take med regularly for that.  Ca-125 not helpful really in your age group, normal anyway.  The heavy menses may be part of a transition form nomral ovulation to no ovulation known as perimenopause, unlikely though.  You may have uterine fibroids, which grow with age but a low dose contraceptive pill along with good med for reflux may save you much concern, go.

i used to have heavy but short periods 3 days. started tulana mini pill a few days short of 3 months ago. periods are now at least 7 days and breakthrough bleeding a week after each period for a few days. is this normal, will it regulate soon?

Accepted Answer

This is common: when starting a pill pack. The usual course is two cycles maybe three to regulate period flow. This seems to be taking longer than expected. Reasons could be uterine lining polyps, or very thin uterine lining. Let your doctor know, as this can evaluated and treated.

ive prescribed provera 10 mg to delay my period. its a once off prescription because im getting married and have heavy periods. what side effects can i expect? and how severe would they be if its once off and for a short period of time.

Provera use: Provera is a synthetic progesterone that will allow the endometrium to continue to maintain its secretory phase during its use. Once it is completed the endometrium will shed and the period may be slightly heavier than usual. The effects of the medication will terminate at that point with no long term effects. Consult with your GYN MD who provided the Rx for confirmation of this response/questions

Unfortunately....: This is not possible naturally with the exception of becoming pregnant.  Hormonal therapy a la birth control pills can be very effective in controlling this problem.

: The greater proportion of them are benign. The issue is you have had it evaluated; and even because of the dangers of the heavy periods could have it removed so they could ascertain that it is not cancer. However it is unlikely to be cancer, it would reassure you when removed and may have less trouble with your menstrual flows.

See your gyn: For a proper workup and evaluation, as u need an exam, blood work and ultrasound, and there are a number of different options depending on your fertilty desires to stop heavy bleeding form meds to in office endometrial ablation that i offer my pts after a proper workup and diagnosis.

SEE YOUR GYN: U need a workup , depending on the cause and what you child bearing desires are, bcpills, or lysteda, or endometrial abaltion that I do in offcie, or sometimes depending on the situation you may need a hysterectomy( usually u will not need the hysterectomy unless other measures tried first all fail).

Many reasons: The causes include:

hormone problems- lack of ovulation, for example.

Anatomical problems such as fibroids, tumor, adenomyosis (the lining of the uterus called endometrium invading into the uterine wall), polyps, etc.

Long list: Very long list: irregular/abnormal ovulation, thyroid disease, medications, uterine polyps, uterine fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial cancers, the list goes on and on - please see a doctor in the office for help with this.

Accepted Answer

Be seen: Hormonal irregularity due to getting closer to menopause is the most common reason for irregular periods, but other possibilities include polyps or fibroids in the uterus, or abnormal cells in the lining of the uterus.  I recommend you see your doctor and get a workup for this.
