I hope so.: While I hope kissing is contagious in the best sense of spreading affection and love,  it is highly unlikely that you could spread herpes if the infection is not in your mouth and you didn't recently contaminate lips or mouth with secretions from shingles' lesions located elsewhere.

You are contagious: Until your shingles blisters scab over, you are contagious and should avoid physical contact with others.

: Shingles are not contagious like other illnesses. It does not go airborne. The moist debris from weeping sores has some chickenpox virus in it but only someone who has never had them that somehow gets this debris in their mouth would be at risk &amp; then the issue would be chickenpox, not shingles. Just keep the site covered.

No spores: Shingles are caused by the same virus that gave you chicken pox.  It has been sequestered in your spinal cord not your lungs.  The concern of contact is with people who haven't had chicken pox  or vaccination including unborn fetuses contact with pregnant women is a major concern as this can have serious consequences for the unborn fetus.

No: Shingles is caused by a virus. Keflex does not work against virus. If you have shingles, you can spread the virus to someone else who has not had chicken pox, and it can be dangerous to someone who is pregnant. Travelling is not recommended. Seek treatment.

: Shingles is a re-activation of the virus that causes chickenpox or rarely the vaccine that prevents it. That virus hibernates in nerve roots when it finishes its first episode but returns as shingles later in some people. It is not the cold sore virus. If he had chickenpox as a kid or was vaccinated, he would be immune. Shingles exposure does not cause shingles, if vulnerable it causes chickenpox

Pain/lesions pattern: Shingles is extremely painful with lesions or rash in a nerve root distribution. The patient had chicken pox before, and the virus sits in the dorsal horn of the spinal column. People who are sleep deprived, under stress, immunocompromised are at risk. One needs to see the doctor for treatment to minimize the pain and to heal more quickly with steroid course.

Very, sort of.: When a person has chicken pox they never completely get rid of the virus.  It hides in nerve cells.  As immunity falls over time the virus can reactivate, travel to the skin and causes shingles.  If you have never had, or been vaccinated for, chicken pox you could catch chicken pox from someone with shingles.  Shingles exposure is also dangerous for pregnant women and the immune suppressed.
