No spores: Shingles are caused by the same virus that gave you chicken pox. It has been sequestered in your spinal cord not your lungs. The concern of contact is with people who haven't had chicken pox or vaccination including unborn fetuses contact with pregnant women is a major concern as this can have serious consequences for the unborn fetus.

Not true: Shingles is not transmitted through the air and is not spread from person to person by contact. Shingles only occurs in someone who has had chickenpox - that is the only way to get it.

Only chickenpox risk: Shingles cannot be passed from one person to another. However, the virus that causes shingles (varicella zoster) can be spread from a person with active shingles to a person who has never had chickenpox. In such cases, the person exposed to the virus might develop chickenpox, but they would not develop shingles. The virus is spread through direct contact with fluid from the rash blisters only.
