hands and feet always shaking, how can i tell if it is parkinson's?

Some thoughts: Agree, it's not as simple as looking at the tremor.  Parkinson disease is a constellation of findings, of which tremor is only one.  That said, Parkinson tremor tends to be asymmetrical, medium to large oscillations, circular (rather than back and forth), less evident with attention.  But, not always.  Tremor can be absent, odd form, other variations.  Its a "whole picture" diagnosis.

when my thumb is bent in a certain position it shakes uncontrollably.  the shaking is at its worse when i am typing on my phone with my thumbs.  there is no pain and no shaking at rest. my father has parkinsons. thoughts?

: This could be due to several different things but most likely is possibly that you have trigger finger. This would be more likely if you complained of a locking and catching sensation at times when bending as well. I would have your primary care examine your thumb and the rest of you to evaluate further.

should lipitor and atorvastatin be taken together. since taking these two drugs i have had shaking in my hands and head, my doctor keeps saying i have parkinsons, but the shaking started after starting these two drugs?

: Lipitor is the brand name for atorvastatin so if you've been taking both simultaneously you're being overdosed. Notify your physician of this. You should have blood work ASAP to look for side effects of liver and/or muscle inflammation. Other blood work such as a cbc &amp; diff, a metabolic panel &amp; urinalysis is also advisable.

Many causes: Benign familial essential (meaning of undetermined cause) tremor is the commonest form. Other important causes are thyroid disease, anxiety, hepatic malfunction, side effects of medication etc.

i have used medication and meditation but cannot stop worrying about health issues. i cannot stop health anxiety and couldn't let myself off of googling. i am helpless. my wife's right arm is shaking and now googling about parkinsons. what should ido?

: 1. Have your wife see a neurologist, as tremor needs diagnosis.  2. For you, start cognitive-behavioral therapy, but also, consider biofeedback sessions.  Be proactive about your reactions.

Alcohol: There is no test for parkinson's - the diagnosis is made based on symptoms and examination. In addition to tremor, stiffness, low rate of blinking are some other findings. In younger people with tremor the most common cause is benign essential or familiar tremor. It usually stops with alcohol, but instead of taking up drinking, ask your md for a prescription for a beta blocker, such as inderal (propranolol).

my uncle has parkinsons, ive noticed my hands shaking for yrs , not that bad but theres been times when ive dropped stuff, is it heredity or what can cause your hands to shake like that? no other symptoms than that one, any ideas of why it happens?

Tremor causes: Include: medications, essential tremor, medical conditions like hyperthyroidism, degenerative neurological conditions - of which Parkinson’s is one.  Many conditions are inherited but not autosomal dominant.  If one parent has it does not mean you will inherit it too but you may have increased risk.

“get headaches all the time’ is not a typical sign of Parkinson’s
I understand your concern “drop stuff sometimes” is also not a typical sign of Parkinson’s. It can be due to Anxiety caused by stresses in your life.
See a Neurologist for severe headache and discuss your concerns.

Sleep related issue: I suspect possible REM sleep behavioral disorder. He needs to discuss with his MD or a sleep specialist.

Dystonia: Dystonia is different than Parkinsons.
Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder, in which sustained muscle contractions cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. The movements may resemble a tremor. Dystonia is often initiated or worsened by voluntary movements, and symptoms may “overflow” into adjacent muscle
