Not exactly: An Echo gives a good picture of the size and surface of the heart. The valves are well visualized - scar tissue is not directly seen as much as inferred by abnormal movement in an area that may have had previous scarring from infarction.

Possible: If heart attack damages a large enough area of the heart, it can lead to abnormal function of the heart and heart failure.

: During the acute phase myocarditis does cause inflammation that will show up on an echocardiogram. If this inflammation doesn't completely resolve during that phase, muscle damage with scarring will permanently be present and demonstrated by subsequent echocardiograms. EKGs can also show the acute and chronic changes. Cardiac MRIs also can visualize certain changes of acute myocarditis&amp;fibrosis.

: It is not another word for heart failure.  Heart failure is a mechanical issue.  Scar is an anatomical issue.  The scar may predispose you to heart failure in the future and it should be monitored closely.

i have history of a asd repair as a child, large amount of scar tissue on my heart . last few month retaining fluids in my legs/ abdomen, notice low bp but increase pulse . what could be wrong?

Echo/CTscan help: Increasing fluid buildup w relative low BP might suggest right sided heart pressures elevated (unlikely due to ASD particularly if successful repair as a child).  Need to rule out calcification and thickening of the pericardium (constrictive pericarditis) which can sometimes occur decades after surgery when there is a " large amount of scar tissue on heart".  A cardiac ct and careful echo doppler.

What kind of hernia?: It depends on the location of the hernia and what kind of surgery was done. Surgery for a hiatal hernia or diaphragmatic hernia may cause scar near the heart. But even this should not lead to a mass between the heart and lung.

: There is an association with pneumothorax and a bubbling sensation. A chest CT is recommended. Your physician may elect to obtain a chest x ray initially. Watch for shortness of breath, chest pain and nausea.  Other causes include GI upset.
