what does is mean if the ear drum is blue?

How did you find out: That someone has a &quot;blue eardrum&quot;? If a physician told you, you should ask that physician what the diagnosis is. The 1st thing that comes to mind is blood behind the eardrum. If that&#x27;s the case this needs to be evaluated immediately. If not, has someone been using ear drops? Blue shampoo? Blue markers, food dye or nystatin drops? Lots of questions, and not too many answers here. See/ask MD ASAP!

Retracted eardrum: Implies eustachian tube dysfunction. Try popping ear with valsalva maneuver. No smoking, alcohol. See ENT for exam and possible treatment.

i have a retracted eardrum in my right ear for the past week. i have tried to equalise with blowing with closed airways and it has not helped. how long does this normally last? thanks

ETD: Sounds like trouble equalizing the pressure in your middle ear. This often creates a fullness or blockage, like you want to pop or clear your ears. It is called eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD). It cold last 2-3 wks. Decongestant either sprayed into the nose or taken orally can alleviate this problem. Sometimes your doctor needs to examine this and treat with other Rx if no success with OTC Rx

Serous otitis: This could be serous otitis (fluid behind your ear drum) or eustachian tube dysfunction.  If you have fluid in your ear your hearing should be significantly decreased in the ear, and when you hum you should hear it louder in the affected ear.  Eustachian tube dysfunction means the tube between your ear and nose is inflamed or narrow.  I have seen sudden nerve hearing loss present as well.  See ent.

is fluid behind ear common with ottis media with raptured ear drum ? is that mean that it is mastoiditis?

: Fluid can collect behind the ear drum when it's infected ( otitis media).   However it doesn't automatically indicate the presence of mastoiditis , a serious infection, which requires testing like CT scan,MRI or skull xray and is treated with IV antibiotics.

i hit my eardrum with a q tip and now it feels like there's water in my ear. what does this mean and is it serious?

Ear pain: You should have that seen. You caould have ruptured your ear drum and that should be looked at.  Do not put qtips in your ear since they can damage either your ear canal or your ear drum.

Accepted Answer

Possibly: The same nerves that carry pain sensation are also responsible for itch. It's possible that the healing of damaged surface nerves is making it itch. It could also be dry skin in the ear canal because the fluid that is normally behind the ear drum can now get into the external ear canal. If it persists for more than 7-10 days, you should see a doctor to make sure there's no infection in the canal.

5yo has a retracted ear drum and is in so much pain, so dr and no infection. does it really cause so much pain and how can i help soothe her?

Pain relief: Would start with ibuprofen at an appropriate dose and then a nasal steroid spray use as nasocort 2 sprays am and pm for 3-4 days then just in am at same dose
also would see ENT   asap for further evaluation

Incision: Incision for t tube shouldnt require a larger incision benefit may be questionable. Consult your doctor for best information.

i have a ruptured ear drum, but i got 28 pills of amoxicillin. i've had 60 pills of amoxicillin like a 1 1/2 a month ago. does it mean its better now

No: If you truly have a ruptured eardrum, you need to be seen by and ENT specialist.
