Blood in urine: It is not likely that you have a cancer.  I see you are taking anticoagulant meds.  This can predispose to hematuria.  Given the ultrasound finging of what could be slowed urine passage thru one ureter, coupled to microhematuria, I recommend further dialogue with your docs.  An IVP or better, a CT-IVP is a valuable next test.

Possible: To be picked up by sonogram , better tests are available to pick kidney lesions in much earlier stages than sonogram.

Need further testing: If indeed a possible kidney mass was found on ultrasound, a CT scan (renal mass protocol) needs to be done in follow-up to confirm the presence of a mass and also to get an idea if there are any abnormally enlarged lymph nodes or other abnormalities in other organs.  This is because ultrasound is very limited in resolution.  A look at the adrenal glands with CT to rule out mass is important also.

difficult: Difficult to answer without seeing the images- but if the tumor was 'isoechoic' or the same echogenicity as the surrounding normal kidney, then it would not be seen with us. A ct or MRI (both with contrast) are both much more sensitive for detecting renal tumors.

It's possible.: Ultrasound and ct scanning are two imaging techniques to evaluate the kidney. They are two different technologies, so they have different performance characteristics and are best in certain situations. For cysts, ultrasound is an excellent modality. For small renal masses or lesions, a multiphase contrast ct scan is the best, and may be able to detect lesions not seen on ultrasound.

38 yr male, good shape, avid runner.traces of blood in urine.dad diagnosed with kidney cancer at 40. dr ordered ultrasound. would this show cancer?

Not necessarily: Traces of blood in urine can result from many reasons, running and exercise is amongst few of the benign reasons, however it can be an early sign of cancer as well. A thorough investigation is mandatory for anyone with strong family history. One should consult the PCP right away and ideally should be evaluated by a Urologist. A kidney ultrasound is one of the many tests needed.

No: A renal cyst that grows from inside to surface of kidney  is called exophytic renal cyst is (are)  benign single or multiple, if no symptoms are left alone.

Cyst in kidney: Right now the 1 cm cyst looks pretty small and benign. However it could turn into something solid or can get larger. 6 months is a good time to repeat it. If it looks the same in 6 months then it probably is not malignant or even if it is a cancer, it probably is slow growing and less likely to be aggressive.
