Usually no. : The sealants are in the grooves of the teeth. If someone grinds their teeth they are usually not grinding the grooves of the teeth. If they are grinding the tooth that much, some sort of dental treatment is needed.

Sealants: Yes but you need to discuss what the reaction was with your dentist as soon as possible and document this for the future.

Uncommon: Dental sealants are usually placed on posterior teeth or those teeth with pits and fissures.  Anterior teeth usually do not have pits and fissures and thus would not retain sealants well.

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Sealants can only be used on the grooves of the back teeth. That being said, the sealants will last a long time, probably not your whole life. However, they can be re-applied if they come off.  There are no sealants for the front teeth.

Accepted Answer

No: Sealants are bonded to tooth enamel and have poor bonding properties to existing fillings. So it would not be a good idea to seal an existing filling. There is however such a thing we call a preventive resin restoration in which we drill out the decay, place a composite resin filling, and then we use sealant on top of that. But that only works if you do the resin and the sealant the same day.

Dental Sealatns: Dental sealants have been around for many years and have been proven to help reduce the incidence of caries/decay in children when placed correctly and checked periodically.
The best way to benefit from sealants is make sure the seams of the sealants are checked often at periodic dental visits and if there is a chip or void in the sealant which can occur,  have the process repeated as indicated.

Since : Since dental sealents fill the groves of the posterior teeth they can affect his bite and make his teeth feel uncomfortable. Typically, with normal chewing the extra sealent material can wear away and just leave the groves sealed. Avoid foods that are too sticky with sealents. The normal time to adjust is 7-10 days. However, if he is uncomfortable and will not eat, I am sure that your  dentist who placed them will adjust his bite and smooth them down to make them feel more normal. Just call and get him in as soon as possible. Good luck.

can adults have dental sealants applied? i know that dental sealants are usually applied on the 6 and 12 year molars, but i never had that done. i have some deep grooves in two of my molars that are just about impossible for me clean. could i have sealant

Yes : Yes an adult could have sealants placed, but is it necessary? It might be a good idea for you if you are cavities prone and you really cannot clean those deep groves. However, if you have not had cavities in those grooves by age 32 there might be an easier way to keep you teeth free of decay like flouride treatments.

Prevent cavities: Sealants are resins that are flowed into the naturally occurring grooves of teeth, and then harden to form a protective seal against the bacteria that cause decay in your teeth.  They are an excellent method to prevent decay from developing in otherwise healthy teeth.

Not remarkable: Dental sealants have been around for over 30 years.  The technique has only changed slightly but the materials are much better.  The original used a resin bonded into the deep grooves on chewing side of tooth but used an ultraviolet light.  The light had poor penetration and some sealants failed.  The newer lights are much stronger.  The resin used is firmer has better bond, plus no bph.
