Prevent cavities: Sealants are resins that are flowed into the naturally occurring grooves of teeth, and then harden to form a protective seal against the bacteria that cause decay in your teeth. They are an excellent method to prevent decay from developing in otherwise healthy teeth.

Prevent cavities: It's a physical barrier placed by the dentist to prevent the sticking of food/bacteria to the chewing surface of the back teeth (premolars and molars). It is highly effective in preventing cavities on those covered surfaces. But... They won't prevent cavities in between teeth (so floss!). They are semi-permanent. They usually stick around for a few years, but eventually they fall out or wear away.

Can be great: Done properly sealants help prevent cavities in areas that are susectible to decay...The deep grooves and pits on biting surfaces of teeth. I like throwing a little ozone gas on the teeth first to help reduce it not eliminate any bacteria in these grooves.
