skin redness under lips and to side of mouth for 2 months now. gp gave ointment but redness comes back on days i do not use it. not itchy or bumpy. just red (inflamed?) what could it be? permanent?

Redness suggests..: ..more vascularity or blood vessels. These often accompany infection or inflammation. Microscopic evaluation of the biopsied tissue will determine whether they is a sufficient amount and type of inflammation to make the diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease/Crohn's Disease. Cultures for infection may have also been taken, and cancer cells will be looked for (unlikely).

See your dentist: Inflammation of the gums, of which redness is just one aspect, is a warning sign that there is a problem. It is typical of disease states like mild gingivitis, chronic periodontitis, acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (anug), and others. If you have red inflamed gums, you have a problem. Go see your dentist and get treated.

Needs further test: Has your diet changed in the past few days or weeks? Does your mouth feel dry or does it seem drier than in the past? Have you changed  your toothpaste or mouth rinse? It could be an allergy of some kind.  You might see an allergist.  You could also get the tissue biopsied to determine what's happening within the tissue.

Various: B vitamin deficiency, allergy to foods, candida. Mangos are a culprit in poison ivy type response.

: You may need to see a Dr for exam (could have an infected cyst or hair follicle) soon but can try warm compresses every few hours &amp; ibuprofen orally for pain/inflammation at home, &amp; if the swelling/inflammation seem superficial some over the counter 1% hydrocortisone cream might help (but do NOT use if there are breaks in the skin/wounds present.  If you develop fever/nausea/dizziness see Dr ASAP

Hives: This sounds like a somewhat serious reaction -and I would try to get more information about it. It's possible he is allergic to something in the shampoo, although I would want to know all his exposures. Unfortunately, allergy can become worse with the next episode. Do you know if this time it was worse than before? He should see an allergist or reach out to a doc here on health tap for better care
