: Ramipril and other ACE Inhibitors have a role in the treatment of mitral valve regurgitation. Most of the studies though have been at a dose of 10 mg, so the evidence is better for the higher dose. It can be one medication in managing this problem

on lansoprazole for a year 15mg a day for diverticulitis and for risk bleeding on plavix i see lansoprazole can decrease my magnesium.so on my medication ,especially ramipril can i take magnesium supplements as there is moderate risk of hyperkalemia?

You need levels: Before you assume that a possible side effect of a medication is going to happen to you you need to know for sure.  Too much magnesium, potassium or calcium can be as bad as too little.  A simple blood test looking at your magnesium and electrolytes will answer that question, and then you have information to tailor what if any supplements to take

: ACE inhibitors like ramipril have been demonstrated to reduce hospitalizations &amp; mortality in patients with low EF. In addition they have been shown to reduce ventricular strain &amp; enlargement in the presence of chronic mitral regulation. I'm unsure what type of cardiomyopathy you have, but ramipril should help you. Your cardiologist can advise you best,however.

For you, an ARB (angiotensin receptor blocker) might be better than the Ramipril, and it may be that doses can be changed or a beta blocker added. Heart rate: There is a difference between these drugs in the amount of arterial vasodilation. The Felodipine can be expected to dilate arteries more than ramipril and have more secondary heart rate increase associated with it. Likely you don't have a concern.

Very good med: Ramipril helps heal the kidneys and protect from cardiovascular events.  However, often it takes more than one med to control ones blood pressure.  It's analogous to flying a plane; one must follow the blood pressure closely to make sure one is not heading for trouble.
