Maybe low potassiium: We need to know the reason for the prednisone. Sometimes prednisone can change potassium or other electrolyte levels.  Your physician will check some of these issues on your evaluation. If you are on a medicine for your Cholesterol this could impact this as well. This will be how your physician will evaluate these symptoms

Why?: Why is it inflamed? Trauma? Usually time and antiinflammatories will help heal it. Prednisone is also anti-inflammatory. Give it more time but would like to know why it is inflamed.

Usually within a day: Or earlier.  But consequences and side-effects emerge with too much for too long.  A quick fix, but usually not the long term one! especially for arthritis!

Depends on cause: How quickly Prednisone works , if it works at all, depends on the cause of the joint pain. If you have an inflammatory arthritis like rheumatoid it may start helping within days. If you have severe bone on bone osteoarthritis it may not help at all that may only be helped with an injection into the joint.

Should help: Prednisone is a potent anti inflammatory agent. At that dose, it suggests you have inflammatory joint disease. While most pain should be improved with this dose, you may also benefit from NSAIDs as well. Discuss this with  your prescribing doc.

No easy answer: Please forgive me. Sed rate and C-reactive protein are famously unreliable markers for inflammation in lupus and suspected lupus. A different pathway of inflammation is often involved. Despite "pop" ideas about "inflammation", inflammation enormously complicated. If it weren't, common painkillers would clear depression, which some folks describe as "a form of inflammation."

Too complicated: It is too complicated to answer your question adequately in this forum. If you feel you're not getting adequate treatment from your physician, find a new one. Prednisone is obviously a drug to be avoided if possible particularly for bone mineral density reasons and many others. This incredibly complicated disease and drug regimen needs to be managed by someone you trust! I hope you feel better

Inflammation: Sounds like inflammation. Must search for cause. Rule out food sensitivity. About 10 percent of population can be sensitive to nightshades, about 30-40 percent can be sensitive to gluten and casein. Other more common food sensitivities include soy, corn, beef, etc. Consider food elimination for at least 2-3 months. Leigh wagner, rd is a good dietitian who can help by phone: 913-588-6208.

May not be: This may depend on what  you are  being treated with and for what. We sometimes  see joint complaints from tapering perdnisone. That  means as the dose  drops joints can hurt. This is called steroid withdrawal rheumatism. You need to discuss this  with your physician

We need to know  what type of health problem you are  are taking prednisone for. Is the pain you have  joint, or muscle? What other medical issues  do you have?
