Going from a lying down position to a standing position causes an exaggerated increase in heart rate. The symptoms include dizziness/lightheadedness and palpitations. HR Fast Standing: POTS stands for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. "Syndrome" is important because is more than one disease the results in the same set of symptoms which are a rapid HR on standing, then sometimes dizziness, feeling faint, feeling shaky/tremulous,  visual changes, throbbing in the head, weakness, chest discomfort &amp; more. The tx depends cause &amp; can be simply time to cardiac procedures.

Prognosis is good: Most people with pots are doing better a year after diagnosis and eventually outgrow it. By one year 37% no longer have it. (mayo clinic proceedings 2012:87(8) 744-752.) treatment is: drink plenty of fluids everyday, eat an unrestricted salt diet, wear support hose, get up slowly from lying down or sitting. If that fails to provide adequate relief, meds can be administered.

Basic differences...: POTS:  Abnormally fast sinus rhythm at rest or minimal activity that accelerates beyond expectations and is out of proportion to physiologic necessity, not resulting from an explainable underlying cause. Diagnosed by exclusion.  IST:  Condition of orthostatic intolerance leading to abnormal increase in heart rate with change in position. Diagnosed with tilt table.

STOP acronyms now: Someone more acronymically-attuned than i will surely be able to answer your question but i must comment that acronyms usually reflect provincialism within medical specialties. For instance i get consults from ophthalmologists so crammed with acronyms that I have to call them to find out what they mean. The new saying is "if you don't have the facts on your side, baffle them with acronyms".

Betablockers: I see you're on atenolol. A more potent beta blocker like Nadolol may help. Pots can be difficult to control.

Medical question?: Doctors have to wash dishes as much as anybody else, but this question is not our best expertise.  Still, one can soak burnt pots & pans in hot water and soap to see if the burnt food loosens up.
