have myasthenia gravis & meningiomas! dr said advise if i have any weakness or symptoms of tumor. how would/could i tell the difference being have mg?

Hard but possible: Agree it can be difficult. Important: where are the tumors? Their location in the brain can tell where you may feel weakness or sensory deficits. MG weakness is often after activity although not always and is multifocal where weakness from tumor is usually more focal. Other symptoms from tumor can be seizures or "spasms" which are not true weakness and not regularly seen with MG.

how long does a surgery take to remove a meningioma tumor ?

Tumor firmness: In addition to size and location, time and difficulty of surgery also depends on the consistency of the tumor--whether it is soft or hard. Sometimes, these tumors can infiltrate the underlying brain, and this also makes them harder. Encompassing major arteries, veins, or nerves, also can make things more challenging. Operating in the bottom part of the brain also requires more durable closure.

Location: Meningiomas are mostly benign tumors and curable by resection. The seriousness depends on the location that may determine the degree of difficulty of surgical removal.

Depends: Even a benign meningioma can grow into a problem- pain, headaches, seizures can occur. Other symptoms may vary on the location of the tumor in the brain.

Accepted Answer

: Calcified meningiomas may not grow but also could grow slowly. 0.4cm is small but since small meningiomas can cause symptoms,I like to have a neurosurgeon see the patient and recommend whether they should be removed or, if only followup MRIs are recommended, how often they should be scheduled.

Yes, uncommonly: Meningiomas can be invasive and have some of the characters of cancers. Most such tumors are not cancerous.

Very good: The success of surgery depends largely on the location of the meningioma. Ones that are alont the convexities of the brain that are readily accessible can be removed in their entirety with minimal morbidity. Tumors at the skull base are more difficult and often require more extensive approaches. These may be associated with higher morbidity.

Possibly: It is most unlikely it is a meningioma. However, i assume you are female, and women with thyroid nodules should have additional evaluation (fine needle aspiration of the thyroid or neck nodule) since they do have a higher incidence of thyroid disease than men. No matter the gender, this needs to have additional evaluation.

2 years ago i had a ct scan for some headaches i was having and they found no tumor, about a week ago i had a mri for an unrelated issue and they found a 8mm meningioma. should i be worried about its growth in that short period of time?

: Meningiomas are extra cerebral slow-growing lesions that typically do not result in presentation with a large damaging mass.  They may be clinically silent and non-eventful for years and are usually discovered coincidentally.  At your age, a surgeon will likely suggest periodic updated films and an MRI would likely have the best views.
