Tumor firmness: In addition to size and location, time and difficulty of surgery also depends on the consistency of the tumor--whether it is soft or hard. Sometimes, these tumors can infiltrate the underlying brain, and this also makes them harder. Encompassing major arteries, veins, or nerves, also can make things more challenging. Operating in the bottom part of the brain also requires more durable closure.
