Not usually: Menopause is defined by a decline in hormone levels and their effects. As the estrogen decreases, the ovaries become nonproductive. The appearance or enlargement of ovarian cysts should not occur after menopause. See your doctor as likely, this cyst needs to be removed. Your doctor will want to rule out cancer and the earlier the work up, the earlier treatment can be rendered for the best outcome.

use .5 mg estrace & 100 mg prometrium for 20 yrs. in post menopause. does it offer protection in preventing uterine cancer?

Accepted Answer

Not exactly: Progesterone use offset the effect of Estrogen in preventing endometrial hyperplasia. If someone is taking Estrogen and has a uterus then they also need to take Progesterone. Combined hormone therapy is not prescribed for the primary prevention of uterine cancer.

adenomyosis-large cysts and uterus is boggy and very large is there anything that makes an impact besides menopause and hysterectomy?

Possibly: Perhaps you can get relief of symptoms by using birthcontrol pills or from lupron (leuprolide).
You need to speak with a doctor, probably have an ultrasound to assess. I'd be happy to see you if you are interested. If you are premenopausal.

is a 7cm lipoleiomyoma posterior to uterus in 40 year old pre menopausal woman concerning? have read more common in post menopause, not causing symptoms?

: There is nothing to concern if it is asymptomatic. It is more common in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women because the leiomyoma begins to degenerate at this time and fatty degeneration is seen, hence the name lipoleiomyoma. The prevalence of leiomyoma increases with age during the reproductive years and this benign tumor usually shrinks will degenerate (shrink) in postmenopausal years.

i am 55 and in menopause,  just finished radiation for breast cancer and now i  have a cyst on my only ovary that i have left. right ovary and uterus ?

Need more informatin: Cysts on the ovary are common. They are mostly benign but it depends on their size and Ultrasound features.
Get your doctor to provide you a report of the tests done thayt showed the cyst.
Unless it is &gt;5 Cm in size it is likely to be benign.

post meno cramps. no bleeding. 5 yrs menopause (im 47). ultrasound shows atrophic uterus & left ovary has a simple 1.6 cm cyst. everything else on u/s normal.radiologist said no imaging followup required. my mother had colon cancer.is cyst a concern?

: All laboratory/imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, a small cyst in the ovary is not a cause for concern and it is not likely to explain your symptoms.    Wish you good health!

: You gave more info in this question but my answer remains the same. Please follow your GYN's advice. Endometrial biopsy is required if you have vaginal bleeding. The fluid, if in small amount, in cul de sac is not an uncommon finding.

44 yrs, pre-menopause. weight loss (almost 20 lbs in 2 months) fatigue, appetite loss. ct scan revealed bilateral adnexal cysts, enlarged uterus, pelvic fluid. also diagnosed with probable fibroadenoma in left breast. neg fibroids. what could it be?

 these findings are ominous, but answers can only be certain with actually removal of abnormalities and pathology evaluated under a microscope

It depends: An ovarian dermoid is a benign neoplasm (tumor) that won't spread beyond the ovary, but may continue to grow. If imaging (ultrasound or mri) suggest a dermoid, management may depend on whether there are any symptoms,  the size of the tumor, whether it is growing, and whether there is any suggestion that it might be a different type of tumor or cancer.
