i had 0%ef on hida scan. when i got the cck  i only felt tightness in my stomach  & slight nausea w/ sweating.  could my results be false/positive?

Doubtful: If the test was performed properly zero result indicates gall bladder dysfunction and or blocked bile outflow from the gall bladder. An Abdominal surgeon can evaluate you, review your hida scan findings with the radiologist and then advise you best.

Yes: Typically when you have a HIDA scan they give the dye and then at the end inject CCK to stimulate the gallbladder. This does give real time information, and most people will reproduce there pain with CCK when it is given.

Why would: you want to alter the results.  You cannot.  The scan will reveal the results..

HIDA scan: If you are describing the fraction of gallbladder emptying, 95% is fine.  there may be other causes for pain in the upper right abdomen.

Yes: Specifically, if the hida scan is done to diagnose acute cholecystitis, there are many potential causes of a false positive.  Some reasons include nonfasting state, prolonged fasting, recent use of narcotics, liver dysfunction due to chronic disease or alcoholism, and more.

Possible slow EF: Normally 4-8 hours is amount of time for fasting prior to hida study. Prolonged fasting can interfere with results of study and demonstrate cholestasis, slow emptying of gall bladder (decreased ejection fraction of gall bladder). This has been shown in patients being fed by intravenous and not oral for prolonged periods of time.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes, prolonged fastoing, for more than 24 hours, can lead to a full gallbladder and a false positive. Eating within an hour or 2 can lead to a false positive as well.
