Normal vs. abnormal: Hida scan is used to mainly evaluate gall bladder function. If the gallr bladder does not visualize there is possibility of acute cholecystits, usually requiring immediate surgery. If gall bladder visualizes but has reduced gall bladder ejection fraction (usually less than 35%)with cck (cholecystokinin), the gall bladder has chronic disease or dyskinesia which may require elective surgery.
