Complicated issue: Cirrhosis is a serious disorder and i would not recommend self treatment for any symptoms or signs. You should establish care with a GI specialist.

My friend,: ..You paint a very bleak picture. Your dad is elderly and his bad cirrhosis makes it likely that any treatment for his hcc will cause more harm than good. I would respectfully suggest that you guys start focusing on confort measures rather than additional therapy. Of course, I do not know all the details so this is a conversation to have with his treating oncologist. Best to both.

if you make a full recovery from severe alcoholic hepatitis and 6 months later have two normal liver function tests; how likely is cirrhosis?  alt 44, bilirubin 16umol, platelet count 183,000, serum globin 38.. thank you

Can recover: One can recover from alcoholic hepatitis without lasting harm, provided one refrains from alcohol, maintains normal weight, exercises about 150 minute/week, avoid hepatotoxic drugs like acetaminophen. Your ALT and globulins are higher than normal and may require additional monitoring. It is not feasible to say anything about cirrhosis without examining you, and may be liver biopsy.

my wife is 37 weeks pregnant, her platelet count has dropped to 100. how low can before an epidural is not recommended? should she get induced early?

Epidural : Personally my cut off for a labor epidural is 60k. However i certainly would touch base with your OB as well as the anesthesia department.

: Low platelet counts are not normal, but a person with cirrhosis usually has low counts due to sequestration and removal by the associated enlarges spleen.

Hypersplenism: With portal hypertension in liver disease the spleen enlarges. It can destroy platelets as it increases in size. Likewise continued alcohol consumption can suppress the production of new platelets in the bone marrow. If the cause of liver injury is removed in time some recovery can take place. Why do you ask?: Your platelets are fine. Which are low -- your lymphocytes, your neutrophils, or neither? Isolated neutropenia without other signs of illness isn't going to be cirrhosis, and often it's "just you". Truth be told, Dan, it's to your credit that you wrote us, and you owe it to yourself and those around you to talk with your physician about why you're concerned about your liver. Best wishes.

ast/alt albumin, bilirubin ,platelets alkaline phosphate,total protein,ggt are all normal? i have what looks like thread veins on my face and on chest i worry its cirrhosis.i drink beer everyday after work?

: I answered your question already. With those normal lab results, an advanced liver disease is almost ruled out so the vessel finding on your face and chest, presumably those are spider veins, is not due to liver disease. As recommended before, you should cut down the amount of alcohol consumption or stop it altogether; otherwise, your concern may become a reality in the future with daily drinking.

platelet:170000. wbc lower than normal range.  can this be sign of liver cirrhosis?

More info needed: Platelet count of 170,000 is normal.

You did not state what your white count was or your hematocrit.  Are your liver function studies normal?  Are PT and PTT normal?
Why are you worried about cirrhosis?  Has your doctor told you that you have signs of cirhosis?
