A member asked:

If you make a full recovery from severe alcoholic hepatitis and 6 months later have two normal liver function tests; how likely is cirrhosis? alt 44, bilirubin 16umol, platelet count 183,000, serum globin 38.. thank you

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can recover: One can recover from alcoholic hepatitis without lasting harm, provided one refrains from alcohol, maintains normal weight, exercises about 150 minute/week, avoid hepatotoxic drugs like acetaminophen. Your ALT and globulins are higher than normal and may require additional monitoring. It is not feasible to say anything about cirrhosis without examining you, and may be liver biopsy.
