2 years agoa  day after right mastectomy i felt non pitting edema 3-4 inches below the surgery incision. it is progressive and all over the body.  why?

Need clarification: Not sure if your mastectomy  2 years ago was followed by edema a day after surgery and has progressed now 2 years later to all over your body? Is this correct?  The 2 may not be related, but requires a visual examination  and history to see what it is all about.

Most likely: it is from the surgery. If you are really concern, you should ask the surgeon about this as well.

DVT : DVT would be very uncommon but certainly not outbid there'll of possibility.  DVT typically would not cause s pitting edema but again, it could. I would get it looked at asap especially if you have pain. Risk factors for DVT would include smoking, obesity and sedentary periods after surgery. Get an ultrasound to be sure. Good luck

Surgery: Often swelling will occur below the area that surgery was performed.

Yes: Most of the time the edema should be gone by 4 weeks.  It's a good idea to get checked for a DVT at this point.  The appearance of the edema does not mean you have the DVT for sure, but it should be ruled out.

Bilateral edema: Call your doctor or go to ER today. may be due to clots(after surgery) , scarring, venous stasis, increased abdominal pressure.( abdominal HTN). Elevate feet, do not wear tight socks. May need diuretic to remove fluid Would also check  EF and heart echocardiogram. Check BP. f/u w/doc ER today

Cellulitis: This is likely cellulitis which is a soft tissue infection. See a doctor. You may need antibiotics and other treatments.

Multi factorial: Any fevers?  Nausea?  Vomiting?  Shortness of breath?  Is the edema on both sides or just one?  While an infection is unlikely this far out, it needs to be rules out.  More likely, it sounds that is surgery related.  What surgery was performed?  I'd need a better history but clots and infection need to be ruled out first, the rest can be dealt with and worked up.

Define CRPs: CRP = C reactive  Protein?  This  could be reflex dystrophy (complex regional pain syndrome). You need  discuss this  with your physician.

Tx Cause: Depends on ethiology. If morbidly obese need to undo morbid obesity. If secondary to congestive heart failure, treat correct failure. If due to venous drainage inssuficiency in leg , anti embolic stockings. Leg elevation higher than right atrium for several hours will diminish leg swelling. Need  venous reflux study. If valve on common femoral vein incompetent, axillary valve vein autotransplant
