L5/S1: There is cross over of the nerve levels in the toes.  The foot in general gets sensation mostly from the L5 and s1 nerve roots.  Is it in both feet?  Most nerve root problems are one sided, especially at your age.  Discuss with your doc.

Injury: A toe injury could cause a pinched nerve. I also have other problems too, like a contusion or fracture or dislocation.

Stretching helps: Avoid sitting with wallet in back pocket. Stretching helps.  Sometimes a heel lift is required. A low back adjustment may be necessary as well. If not relief with this or anti inflammatory medications, further testing, such as an x-ray, ct or MRI may be needed.

See doctor to verify: Usually anything related to pinched nerves in the neck (cervicals) have implications with the upper extremities, and likewise with the lumbars. So, normally the 7th vertebrae would not affect your toes. See your doctor, so they can do a mini-neurological check, and see what's causing that, as it may be more related to the sharp pain in your butt, rather than your neck. You need a physical exam.

Nerve pain: Please consider using a mind-body approach developed by John Sarno, MD.  You can do a search for his work on the net. Minimum of 2 weeks: Endep or Amitriptyline is commonly used for neuropathic pain you describe. The drug can be effective in 2 weeks but the majority of people will need to take the medication for 6 to 8 weeks and you may require some dosing changes if the initial dose is not effective. Good luck

Foot massage: Foot massage is extremely helpful for foot numbness because it increases circulation.  Numbness is due to decreased circulation especially to nerves which alter sensation.  It's not likely a pinched nerve per se but compression of all your foot structures.  A soak and massage should be good....And laying off the high heels may be good too. :-).

i have a pinched nerve in my lower back which causes numbness in my thigh. when i walk or stand still, middle 2 toes go numb. are they related?

Maybe: Depending on what area of your thigh gets numb, the two areas could be related. The L5 nerve root passes the l4-5 disc level and leaves the spine through the l5-s1 foramen. After it leaves the spine, the nerve goes down the outside of thigh and calf to the top of the foot and into the toes.
