i had a pancreatitis attack about a month ago. i'm still experiencing stomach discomfort and pain where my pancreas is. pain in the right side below breast in rib cage. pain radiating around to the back. should i still be experiencing pain?

Gastroenterologist: Discomfort in the right upper abdomen radiating around to the back is characteristic of gall bladder pathology. Gall stone disease can cause pancreatic inflammation. What were the findings on a gall bladder ultrasound?  Any stones? Any sludge? I believe a gastroenterologist is best qualified to evaluate your symptoms and investigate further. See an abdominal surgeon if gall bladder pathology found

have divitriculitis--off & on for years pain is not severe, but sometimes is on left side and radiates to the back. sometimes it is in the middle of the abdomen and sometimes it is on the right side feels like gall bladder. pancrease be involved?

: I am not sure if diverticulitis is consistent with your symptoms.

Hida scan: The normal tests for abdominal pain in the right upper abdomen can include a sonogram and a ct scan.  A hida scan with an ejection fraction will evaluate the function of the gallbladder.  I will refer patients to a gastroenterologist, as well, for evaluation of the stomach for ulcer disease, gastric reflux and other stomach problems.

are there any artificial pancreases (pancrelipase)?

Accepted Answer

No: However, transplant of small cellular components of the pancreas which make the insulin, called islets, are done in a few experimental centers around the country.  In addition, some patients can do well with an external artificial Insulin pump which delivers Insulin over a two day period and has to be adjusted less frequently than given Insulin shots.

hi i was wondering if my amylase level number is 125 is it considered dangerous at my age 21 for my pancreases checked what could this indicate?

Any symptoms?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your level is normal.

how does vaporizered marijuana interact with pancrease (pancrelipase)? same with e-cig. they say ppl with pancreas issues should stop smoking. what about vaporizers?

THC: binds to fat cells- pancreas beaks down fat as does pancrease (pancrelipase).

Maybe: It depends on why you're taking pancrease (pancrelipase).  If it's because your pancreas does not make enough pancrease (pancrelipase) on its own (pancreatic exocrine insufficiency), then you may also be deficient in lipase, so a combination of the two may be good for your condition. Maybe: It depends on why you're taking pancrease (pancrelipase).  If it's because your pancreas does not make enough pancrease (pancrelipase) on its own (pancreatic exocrine insufficiency), then you may also be deficient in lipase, so a combination of the two may be good for your condition. Depends on cause: If found incidentally it may not require intervention.  If because of cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, obesity, cushing's  etc therapy should be directed at the underlying cause.  Talk to your doc.

is pancrelipase a good substitute for pancrease enzymes?

Accepted Answer

Yes?: If you have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, the treatment is oral pancreatic enzymes (aka pancrealipase).  These enzymes are also used to treat chronic pancreatitis.  Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is fairly uncommon, generally seen in patient with a history of acute or chronic pancreatitis or cystic fibrosis or pancreatic surgery.
