i am having my colon removed due to pan diverticulosis. what can i expect after the surgery regards to diet and normal activities? i won't have a bag.

Diverticular dz: Extensive diverticulosis is one of the indications for total colectomy there did you get repeated infections, were you symptomatic with pain, fever , bleeding in stools etc. Removing the colon will still allows you to lead a normal life though initially you will need low residue diet, that means avoiding bulk forming food so that you,initially you have some loose stools but slowly will be adjusted

i have pan diverticulosis. doctor removed sigmoid 2 years ago. had 3 more attacks since. dr wants to remove colon. is that large & small intestines?  he said i shouldn't need a bag. what are the statistics for a full recovery after that?

Diverticulosis. : Unfortunately, some cases of diverticulosis end up this way. The doctor would be removing large intestines, not small, and depending on how the operation is done you may in fact not need a colostomy (bag).  There will be dietary changes, about which you should speak with your doctor or a registered dietitian.

Fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, beans, whole grains, lean cuts of meat, fowl and fish, low fat dairy products, unhealthy-processed foods, high in animal saturated fats and processed sugars- the low fiber processed foods cause constipation, stagnation and straining which can make diverticulosis worsen.

Diverticulitis?: I'll assume you are asking about the role of antibiotics in diverticulitis. Diverticulosis is the presence of outpouches in the colon wall. It presents with bleeding. Diverticulitis is infection of one of those areas, it will present variably with pain, fever, diarrhea, nausea, inability to defecate, and even sepsis. Diverticulitis is treated with antibiotics, but additional therapy may be needed.

had perforated colon.  5 inches descending colon removed.  do i still need to follow a diet for diverticulosis ?

Eat well...: It's never too late to start eating well. At 45 with a history of diverticulitis, i'd recommend a broad diet with adequate fibre, and try to lower your fat content. It wouldn't hurt to add a cheap bulk laxative. You don't need to avoid seeds or salads, though I do suggest you limit your intake of nuts and popcorn - not an absolute moratorium, just not a daily diet. Good luck.

Bowel surgery: Surgery for complicated diverticular disease can frequently be done laparoscopically resulting in quicker recovery.  Your bowel habits might change post-op but rarely to either extreme.  Most individuals resume a normal life post-op.  Good luck!

i have diverticulosis in the splenic flexure it continues to spasm and cause pain causing air to back up in my transverse colon. what can i do?

Diet, fiber, fluids: "diverticulosis" is a condition where the colon has small outpouchings (diverticuli) of the colon lining that can get plugged up and infected causing symptoms."diverticulitits" is an inflamation of these divertiuli of the colon.  There are   antibiotics can cure the infection but not the diverticuli.    Surgery to remove the section of colon  "diverticuli" will often cure the disease.

i have severe narrowing of digestive tract plus severe sigmoid diverticulosis in different parts of colon. constant niggling pain in low left side.

Sounds : Like you are having low grade diverticulitis or intermittent intestinal obstruction.  Depending on why you developed your narrowing, it could mean that an operation is necessary to relieve the obstruction.  Ask your GI specialist for recommendation.
