You may have: recurrent sebaceous cysts, very common in the axillae! (armpits) These sometimes get infected. Check this out with your Primary Care Physician and perhaps determine once and for all what the "lumps" are and how they may be AVOIDED!

Deodorant?: The antiperspirant as well as the perfume can cause dermatitis at the armpits. Consult a dermatologist to check this out. May try topical Hydrocortisone to reduce the discomfort in the meanwhile.

Systemic Process: Could be infectious, autoimmune like Lupus, Rheumatoid, another process associated with other medical conditions. You need to be seen and evaluated. Expect blood work, and possible Imaging Studies (X-Ray, CT, MRI) after a thorough History and Physical.

Pain in armpits.: There are generally two things of concern that could occur in the armpits.  You could be feeling inflamed lymph nodes, wherein the question would be as to the reason they're inflamed.  Or this could represent a rather stubborn infection called hydradenitis suppurativa. Regardless, you should be evaluated for this locally, as treatment may be needed.

my partner has just found two red hard lumps under each of his armpits, what could this mean? (he is male, 19, healthy)

Lumps in arm pits: This very common situation means that the patient may have reacted to either bacteria or fungus on his deodorant or something else that has come in contact there. Other possibilities are an allergic reaction to any product used in the under arm.  Most people get better by stopping the exposure for a time. 
If the sores get bigger or warmer or have any abscess he will need to be seen.

Acrochordons: These tags of skin are more prominent in some families and more numerous on obese people. They are removed quickly and easily without sutures or dressings. It is nearly painless, OK to get wet, heals in about a week.  They are also common around the neck, under the breasts, and in the groin. They are common on the eyelids and just as easily removed. They never become malignant.

why would someones armpits feel sore on & off for months & months.. there are no lumps & sometimes they feel totally normal.. but then i will wake up one day and they feel sore, sometimes one, sometimes both.. then next day, gone! no other symptoms?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see a doctor, if possible on the day you have soreness. Regular aerobic exercise may help by improving muscle tone and flexibility. Wish you good health!
