Maybe constipated?: Are you constipated? A medical definition is bowel infrequency (less than one bowel movement every 3-4 days). What's "normal" for you? The fact your symptoms abate after decompressing your gut by defecating suggesting a colonic source of distress. Examination is in order certainly for your reassurance &amp; accuracy of diagnosis.

when should i take align,morning or night? i want to have a bowel movement every morning when i wake up. are side effects strong? im scared to start

Align: Align is not a laxative and may not fulfill your goal of having a bowel movement every morning. There is no specific time of the day recommended, but for the ease of use would recommend in am. Please refer to aligngi.com. Gas and bloating are the most common side effects experienced with probiotics in general.

pain on my left side close to base of rib age, especially when having a bowel movement, which are infrequent. major discomfort when trying to go. why?

Constipated: You have pain secondary to your constipation. You may have to increase fiber in your diet. Add fruits and vegetables to your diet. Add figs, dates, raisins and nuts to your diet. Reduce your milk and milk products. Eat high fibered cereals and drink 6-8 glasses if water.

Probably not: If pain during normal bowel movements is your only symptom it is unlikely the be irritable bowel syndrome. Consider rectal fistula or rectal abscess if the pain occurs when stool is exiting. If the pain occurs when straining and it is on the left side consider descending colon pathology. If this persists, at least a colonoscopy should be done, and possible a ct of the abdomen.

Laxative: You may take a laxative like Dulcolax or better yet , a fiber laxative like Metamucil. Drink enough water so that your urine is colorless. You may wish to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for info:

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.  Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.
Practice safe sex.

If your lower abdomen hurts, that could be your skin, muscles, bladder, uterus, or intestines. If the upper part of your abdomen hurts, it could be acid reflux, pancreatitis, or other problems. See a doctor for an assessment.

See MD: number of causes for right-sided pain, such as inguinal/femoral hernia, appendicitis, dietary intolerance, and other inflammatory conditions, Would need to review better ur medical history and past tests to better comment on the plan of workup to identify reversible causes and help reduce your symptoms. Urgent attention if w blood, fever, chronic diarrhea. incr pain.  Happy to consult further.

Fluids, Fiber: Sounds like you've got hard stools, which can be painful.  I suggest 1-2 tablespoons full of psyllium husks (Metamucil, Konsyl) in a glass of water.  Drink it fast, as it will turn to sludge in your glass, otherwise.  Follow with another glass of water.  We should consume enough fiber to have an easy bowel movement at least once/day.  If you need some stimulation, try magnesium--500-1,000 mg/day.
